Our educators deserve more.

Illinois budget cuts leave our teachers and classrooms with limited resources. Our foundation helps ensure teachers and students get what they need.

The Classroom Grant Program

The Sherrard Academic Foundation awards classroom grants within the Sherrard School District each year to supplement supplies and needs for classroom activities that may not otherwise be available.

Our foundation committee grants dollar amounts up to $500 each based on grant applications and general merit.

Along with the SAF funds, The Richard and Babe Duty Memorial Fund awards $2,500 in grants each year to support educators in their efforts to advocate excellence in their classrooms at Sherrard Grade, Winola Grade, and Matherville Intermediate schools.

Wish to apply for a grant?

To apply for a grant, the teacher must complete the application below. Responses will then be viewed by the Sherrard Academic Foundation Board. Grant recipients will be notified twice a year: October and February, depending on the date of their submission.

Applications submitted should also include any additional information or supporting documents that will help the Foundation evaluate the request.

The first round of individuals receiving grants will be notified in late October. The money provided in the grant should be expended and invoices, along with other supporting documents, submitted to the unit office for payment by January 1, following the grant award.

So far this year, we have received 25 applications and have awarded over  $5,700 in grants.

We plan to keep the applications open throughout the school year to allow teachers to apply for more supplies and needs as they arise.

Classroom Grant - Phonics Activities

Engaging Readers

These materials have allowed me to implement more decodable texts into my instruction, as this supports the research behind the science of reading.  I needed more phonics based passages for the struggling readers I work with daily, and to help support the classroom teachers in meeting the needs of their students in grades 1-2. Thank you!

Vocab Enrichment

Our Yoto players have transformed our kindergarten classroom into a language-rich learning environment. This long-term investment offers enduring value and countless hours of educational fun. By listening to stories, students develop essential literacy skills like listening, vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension. This is a critical stage for building these foundations.
